Gucci’s creative director Sabato de Sarno this week unveiled the new Milan Design Week 2024 exhibition “Design Ancora” at the house’s Via Montenapoleone flagship store.
Co-curated by Michela Pelizzari, founder of Milanese creative agency P:S, the exhibition is a series that, for the brand, defines a golden age of Italian design, craftsmanship and “cultural professionalism.” This is an opportunity to introduce objects. ‘.
In the Gucci store’s bespoke space, created for a project by Barcelona-based architect Guillermo Santoma, Mr. De Sarno and Mr. Pelizzari have created dozens of past works as symbols of “Italianness” and, in particular, Milanese style. We’ve selected a special edition of five designs spanning the years. The new editions are all unified in Gucci’s deep red ‘Rosso Ancora’, unveiled by De Sarno at his debut show in September 2023, interpreting icons of the past through a modern lens.
The range includes the Le Mura modular sofa (1972, reprint 2022) created by Mario Bellini for Tacchini, whose form recalls the rocks of the Roman walls. Geometric “Clessidra” rug by CC-tapis (2024). The Portaluppi pattern is part of his project and is based on the designs of the late Italian architect Piero Portaluppi. and the sensually rounded “Storet” chest (1994, reprinted in 2020) by Nanda Viggo for Acerbis.
Meanwhile, Tobia Scarpa’s minimalist and elegant hand-blown glass “Opaci” vase (1960, reprint 2021) by Venini and Fontanaarte’s functional and fun “Parola” by Gae Aulenti and Piero Castiglioni. Table Lamp (1980) completes the collection with three types of glasswork.
Each object represents Gucci’s commitment to redefining luxury, celebrating creativity, Italian craftsmanship and innovation.
After the presentation in Milan, the products will be available for purchase on the Gucci website from April 21, 2024. gucci.com
