Marek Reichman claims he has the coolest job in the world, and not many people would probably disagree. Find out what kind of mindset it takes to be at the top in the automotive design field.
In this episode of Creators, Marek Reichman talks about his creative process, his close relationship with the James Bond films, and how he leads one of the world’s most iconic brands.
As Chief Creative Officer of iconic sports car manufacturer Aston Martin, Marek Reichmann is responsible for designing every detail of the world’s most exclusive and famous cars.
If that’s not cool enough, there are four Aston Martin cars featured in the recently released blockbuster No Time to Die, Daniel Craig’s final appearance as 007. , it could also work closely with the James Bond film series. Reichmann and his team also designed a car for Bond with real gadgets.
“My role, and the team’s role, is to look at Aston Martin and see the association of 108 years of history, F1 racing, La Mans victories and James Bond. It’s obvious when you see it,” Reichman said. .
As an industrial engineer, ideas can come to you at any time, and you can’t schedule “creative time” in your diary.
“If the hairs on the back of my neck stand up, it doesn’t matter if it’s art, photography, music, dance, sculpture or exhibitions, movies, racing, cars, etc. And if I’m inspired in that moment. , try to write it down on paper as soon as possible.
“The creative process…for me always begins with a sketch. The quickest way to get an idea from your head to someone else’s eyes is to sketch it. It’s to draw it. On paper. You write with a pen, which is absolutely still relevant today despite all the augmented systems we have.”
It takes Aston Martin’s design team around six months to go from initial sketches to a working concept car, and around 3.5 to four years to complete a full production car.
Getting to that point requires teamwork from both the design and engineering departments, Reichman says. “I have always described the chief creative officer as a great orchestral conductor.”
