But the red carpet told a different story. Three of the most famous people on the guest list by any standard, Zendaya, Kim Kardashian, and Bad Bunny, all wore custom John Galliano couture looks from his house of Margiela.
Kardashian arrived again wearing a silver corset and a silver mesh skirt, with an impossibly tiny tube that curved her hips and appeared to be layered with flowers, leaves, and branches embellished with mirrors, crystals, and pearls. . According to Margiela’s release, Zendaya, styled as always by Law Roach, wears a sage green lame and organza dress over an electric blue and emerald corset, topped with a metallic bird, berry , decorated with leaves. Bad Bunny appropriated the count from JG Ballard’s 1962 short story “Garden of Time” and added a blue foam hat to the dress code for the night. He carried a bouquet of woolen flowers and wore leather gloves and custom-made tabi socks.

The first Margiela staff member to arrive at the Met on Monday was Gwendoline Christie, who walked the runway show in January and brought similar theatricality to the Met Gala red carpet. She wore a sheer silk tulle opera coat, bias cut of course, over a blood orange silk velvet dress.
Galliano also dressed actor Adrien Brody in a double-breasted tuxedo, and dressed Tavis and Indian socialite Natasha Poonawalla in white foam jackets and skirts with stretchy stockings.
