On Monday evening, UAW members at Stellantis’ Warren Stamping Plant voted to authorize a strike over issues ranging from malfunctioning fans to restroom sanitation, according to the union.
A vote by Local 869 members to authorize a strike does not mean more than 1,000 members will go on strike, but it will significantly increase pressure as grievance negotiations proceed. Warren Stamping supplies multiple plants in the United States, Canada, and Mexico, producing Dodge Durango, Chrysler Pacifica, and Ram light and heavy trucks, as well as Jeep Gladiator, Grand Cherokee, Wrangler, Wagoneer, and Grand Wagoneer. The union did not release the total number of votes received, and it was not clear on Monday how soon the strike would begin.
The company has been contacted for comment. The company earlier issued a statement saying it was “committed to providing a safe and healthy work environment for all of our employees” and that “we aim to resolve this issue without disrupting operations.” Ta.
Union videos posted on social media show images of liquid and debris on the floor, apparently from inside the factory, and workers describe a number of problems, including oil leaks.
“Not only do we hope these health and safety complaints are resolved, we hope our members continue on the same path they came in,” UAW Local 869 President Romaine McKinney III said in a news release. Stated. “We want our members to understand that they’re not just a number, they’re not just an organization that puts their lives on the line. They come to work and feel like they have some ownership in the building. You will feel it.”
Local 869 member Shortay Smith said in the release: “We must stand up and unite for this health and safety complaint process because this is our livelihood. So stand up to Warren Stamping and do what we need.” Let us take care of you in a way.”
