NYCX Design 2024
New York City is gearing up for its annual Design Week. NYCx design, returns in 2024 to celebrate design innovation. His week-long festival includes a wide range of disciplines, including architecture, product design, furniture, and landscape architecture. Across Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Queens, attendees can expect exhibits, installations, talks, and product launches focused on innovation, sustainability, and inclusivity in the world of design. This year will also feature his inaugural NYCxDesign Keynote Series, offering daily presentations from design gurus. iF design Hosts of the prestigious International Design Awards will enjoy cocktails and conversation on the rooftop. Exploring the power of place, the evening begins with an interdisciplinary panel discussion moderated by designboom. Held at audio industry leader Harman’s New York Design headquarters, his rooftop DJ performance will conclude the festivities.
Panelists include architects Pascal SablinCEO of Adjaye Associates NY Studio, Global President of NOMA, and Founder of Beyond the Built Environment. Christian Schulender, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Global Design for HARMAN International and Huemen Design.and the artist Roy NachumFounder of RM Labs LLC.

Mercer Lab, an immersive museum founded by artists Roy Nacham, will hold a celebration on the first day of NYCxDesign 2024 to kick off the week-long festival. Design enthusiasts and professionals are invited to come together and toast upcoming festivals, exhibitions and events. Located across from the iconic Oculus designed by Santiago Calatrava, Mercer Lab is an art and technology museum founded by a New York-based artist. Mercer Lab has designed a series of expansive otherworldly exhibits of all sizes, from larger-than-life to larger-than-life. During NYCxDesign 2024, Oui! Design will mainly introduce French design. His week-long program will partner with 30 galleries and workshops across New York City. This means that visitors can find exhibitions showcasing established and up-and-coming French designers scattered across a variety of neighborhoods, from Chelsea to the art hubs of Brooklyn and Queens. means. Unlike traditional design fairs, Oui! Design is more than just exhibits. Organized by Villa Albertine, the event promises live demonstrations by artisans, allowing visitors to see traditional French techniques first-hand.

As a member of Oui! One week of design programming, Gallery Philia presents Flâneries, an immersive art project that transcends cultural boundaries and combines both French and New York influences through the medium of ceramics. This exhibition focuses on Philia artists Lisa Allegra, Elisa Uberti, Elsa Fouron, Leontine Furthy and Pia Chevalier. Together, the artists explore the intersection of nature, urbanity, and femininity, expressing their interpretations through the versatile medium of ceramics. The show’s title is a reference to “Flâneur,” an ode to aimlessly wandering the streets. Artists draw inspiration from the ebb and flow of urban energy and translate it into tangible ceramic expressions.

MUJI celebrates its minimalist design philosophy and iconic packaging in the second installment of its MUJI IS exhibition series at NYCxDESIGN. Miyuki Tokunaga, who has overseen Muji’s copywriting atelier since 2001, has shaped the brand’s language through concise product tag phrases. At this exhibition, this tag is displayed in large size along with MUJI products, emphasizing the brand’s commitment to “selection of materials,” “rationalization of processes,” and “simplification of packaging.”

Poltrona FrauThe renowned Italian luxury furniture brand has announced the opening of a new flagship store on Madison Avenue in New York City. Our spacious flagship store (19,000 square feet) is housed in a historic Art Deco building and features a variety of residential and commercial furniture and accessories. Jenny Holzer: Light Line revisits the artist’s iconic 1989 Guggenheim installation in a spectacular new iteration. Electronic signage spans all six of her lamps in the Frank Lloyd Wright Rotunda, displaying scrolling text selected from her famous “Truisms” and “Inflammatory Essays” series.The exhibition will also feature a selection of: jenny holzerPaintings, paper works, stone pieces, etc. from the 1970s to the present. To further enhance the opening week, from May 16th to 20th, Holzer’s light projection “For the Guggenheim” will decorate the museum’s facade at sunset.

During NYCxDesign, Isamu Noguchi Foundation and Garden Museum Announcing artists to be honored for major touring retrospective Toshiko Takaetsu. The show, titled “ToshikoTakaezu: Worlds Within,” is the first major survey of the artist’s work in more than 20 years. It will eventually tour to several other locations across the United States. Takaetsu is a Hawaiian-born artist of Okinawan descent who was a leading figure in 20th century abstract art and is best known for his “closed form” ceramics. These expressive glass sculptures ranged from intimate pieces to large-scale installations that create immersive environments. By pushing the boundaries of traditional vessel form, Takaezu turned it into a three-dimensional canvas for artistic exploration. Check out the designboom article here!
