We are pleased to announce Gregory Schmidt as our new European Business Editor-in-Chief.
Greg is perfect for this job. During his time in the New York business sector, Greg emerged as a truly jack-of-all-trades editor and writer. He can edit news and features, write news and features, and help run his blog live. And he does it with grace and humor and a necessary degree of urgency.
In his new role, Greg will work with reporters in the UK and across the region to oversee coverage of Europe’s economy, clean energy transition efforts and rising tensions with trading partners. He picks up news from Seoul and helps New York start it before it wakes up. Again, he helps with…almost everything.
Greg joined the business copy desk in 2007 after seven years at the Miami Herald. He last served as Deputy Editor of the Business Desk. Greg writes about technology and video his games, and he knows a lot about it. Since 2017, he has edited our Square Foot column, which sparked a strong interest in real estate reporting. In 2022, he worked on the real estate desk as a beat reporter for four months, which led to a reporting fellowship at Columbia University.
Greg was born in Southern California and attended the University of Tampa and then graduate school at the University of Florida.
Greg started in our London office last month. Please join us in congratulating Greg.
