The Marin Academy and San Domenico swim teams placed 1-2 in the boys and girls standings at the Bay Area Conference Championships held Saturday at Marin Academy.
In the women’s division, Marin Academy (145 points) took first place ahead of San Domenico (71 points) and Rick Wilmerding (39 points). The boys game was a close one, with Marin Academy leading the way with 107 points, followed by San Domenico (72) and University (67).
The Wildcats’ Brooke Bent won the 50 free in the North Coast Section with a qualifying time of 24.48 seconds. Bent was third in the 100 fly (1:01.32). Marine Academy’s Ali Kosmovsky won the 100 free (54.52 seconds) and took second place in the 200 free (2:00.52). The Wildcats’ Hannah Reishley placed third in the 500 free (5:46.14).
Marine Academy qualified for the NCS by winning the girls’ 200 free relay (1:42.12) featuring Gabby Reischley, Kelly Kurtzig, Kosmovski and Bent. San Domenico took third place in the 200-meter free relay and second in the 400-meter free relay, ahead of third-place Marin Academy. The Wildcats, featuring Hannah Reischley, Hannah Shoup, Bent and Kurtzig, won the 200-meter medley relay (1:55.35).
On the boys side, the Wildcats’ Tristan Lue and Skyler Lewick placed first and third in the 50 free, respectively. In the 100 free, they were tied for 3rd and 4th place. Marine Academy’s Kirsten Hakes took second in the 100 fly (54.01 points), with his teammate Euan Smith fourth.
The Wildcats placed second in the 200 free relay and 400 free relay.
San Domenico’s Nolan Andrews won the 100 back (53.09), and Zane Schumann took second in the 500 free (4:48.57) and third in the 200 free (1:45.76). Teammate Avery Parks placed third in the 200 IM (2:03.01) and fourth in the 100 IM (1:04.49). All three, along with Demid Korsak, were part of the team that won the 200-meter medley relay (1:41.74) and took fourth place in the 400-meter free relay (3:27.69).
Mountain bike
Redwood High School’s Scout Wellmeyer and Archie Williams’ Simon Hewett claimed individual wins at the Granite Bay Grinder Mountain Bike Race on Saturday, giving the Giants the top overall team standings in Division I competition. .
The Peregrine Falcons finished second behind the Giants, with Tam third. Marin Academy and San Domenico finished third and fourth, respectively, in Division II. Branson, Marin Catholic, San Marin and San Rafael also sent teams to the tournament.
Wellmeyer won the women’s varsity race (1 hour, 26 minutes, 46.70 seconds) with teammate Charlotte Philkill in third place. She was joined by Quinn Joyce of San Domenico in sixth place, Alexandra Stein of the Falcons in seventh place and Joanna Nesbitt of Tam in eighth place.
Hewett won the varsity men’s race (1 hour, 17 minutes, 46.22 seconds) on a difficult course that started on the sand and continued on a rough track that saw some piling. Other top local riders in the division were Sun Marine’s Ter Hirschfeld, Archie Williams’ Noah Bott and Blake Doll, and Tam’s Jacob Camposano, who finished 10th through 13th, respectively.
The NorCal Cycling League will be held Saturday at Stafford Lake for the final race before the championships May 18 at Six Sigma Winery. Hewett leads the men’s varsity event after three races. Philkill is second in the women’s national team season standings, 10 points behind Rio Americano’s Camille Smith.
