IL lawmaker excited about growing “bioeconomy”
Illinois lawmakers said they see more opportunities for growth in demand for Illinois corn and soybeans.
Nikki Budzinski represents 13 people.th District, told reporters on the National Agriculture Broadcasting Corporation’s Washington Watch.
“One of the things I’m really excited about is the development of a very bioeconomy, or bioindustry, based on corn and soybean growers in south-central Illinois,” she says.
She says much of that opportunity has to do with the expansion of the biofuels market.
“You know how we reduce our carbon footprint,” she says. “Yes, it’s important. Through biofuels we can do that, but we can also support producers and family farmers.”
Budzinski said the potential for designation as a “technology hub” within his district would also bring in new markets.
“We are a finalist to become a technology hub, particularly in bioprocessing and fermentation,” she said. “This is a great example of everyone involved coming together.”
He said a final decision on the designation is expected to be made this summer. Meanwhile, Budzinski next generation fuel law in parliament.
