A woman visited a second-hand store and left with some great purchases.
She found big designer brands on sale at a thrift store for a fraction of their retail price.
Redditor posted the photo she found on social media platforms.
She wrote, “Bottega Veneta Nodini for $2.99? Yes please. Thank you thrifters.”
Savers is a thrift store located in Melford, a town on Long Island, New York.
Designer resale websites are selling the bags at a much higher markup compared to what the Redditor paid.
throw it in your bag
The savvy shopper opened up about finding the Bottega Veneta bag in a comment to another Redditor.
“I thought my fashion find was amazing, but now I feel like I’m just an amateur saver. Congratulations on your find,” the person wrote.
“Well, to be honest, I was looking for a cute, cheap vintage woven bag, and I was excited to find this,” the Redditor replied.
“Then I looked inside and thought, “Look, this is cute even if it’s fake,” and I felt like it wasn’t.
“It’s so funny, they say the Coach bag costs $75, but they’re making this $3.
“It’s rare to find something like this, but we found quite a few designer pieces in this one place.
“In some cases, the price is too high.”
She explained that she found the serial number inside the bag to prove that she had purchased it herself.
crowd pleaser
Bottega Veneta is currently up for sale by luxury goods reseller Sac du Lux.
The same style, the Nappa Intrecciato Nodini Crossbody Bag, sells for $650.
The original price for this piece was $2,700, but since it’s an older style, your best bet is to get the bag through a reseller.
“Pricing at thrift stores is wild. Perhaps it has something to do with the brand familiarity of their employees,” one Redditor surmised.
“Most people recognize mall brands and ‘affordable luxury’ products like Coach, but not necessarily Bottega Veneta.”
“I always check the main handbag section, not just the expensive stuff in the special section,” said another.
”[I do this] Because thrift store staff usually only recognize famous mid-tier bags.
“My savers have gotten better at distinguishing between the nicer bags and the junk, but every once in a while they find something special that they had overlooked.
“Congratulations. I’ve never authenticated a Bottega Veneta, but it’s certainly cute for $3.”
