After this blunder, fans think it’s her fault.
Cardi B has always been known for her bold style, so it’s no surprise that she stole the show at the 2024 Met Gala, but it wasn’t just her huge black dress that made headlines was.
The 31-year-old “WAP” rapper chatted with Vogue’s Emma Chamberlain on the red carpet, but when the YouTube creator asked Cardi B about her over-the-top fashion, she revealed that she didn’t know the name of the dress designer. It seems like there wasn’t. “They are Asian and everything is Asian,” she said.
“But does it feel amazing? Who made this?” Chamberlain asked, to which the musician replied: You’re an amazing designer. They are Asian, all Asian. So, yeah. ”
The Grammy winner wore a billowing dress by Chinese brand Windowsen that featured “10,000 feet of organza” to represent the soil of a garden, according to an Instagram post by designer Sengsen Li. The design was so huge that nine men had to help it climb the museum’s stairs.
Fashion fans flocked to social media to express their disappointment that Cardi B didn’t praise Windowsen. Same goes for the person who commented on the Vogue video: “Not knowing a designer’s name is a low-key insult, and calling them Asian or whatever…” No, no! ”
Another YouTube user wrote: “That Asian designer will forget about her next year.”
Fans also jumped in to defend Lee on the designer’s Instagram account, with one saying, “Don’t worry Cardi B doesn’t remember your name, we don’t know who you are now.” I know, baby!” one person commented.
“I can’t believe you were just reduced to ‘this Asian designer’ when all the artistry and talent was put into her at the Metropolitan Museum of Art,” another wrote.
However, one Instagram user defended the singer, writing: “Ever forget your name?” Calm people down. Jesus is the Christ. ”
Opinions may still be divided, but one thing is for sure: Cardi B will always have people talking.
