With the recent launch of Cytiva’s new disposable magnetic mixer system, the company attended INTERPHEX 2024 to showcase the line.talk to pharmaceutical technology® At the show, Eric Corti, global product manager for Cytiva’s mixer portfolio, discussed the key characteristics, challenges, and design future of such equipment.
“This is a large-scale mixer that primarily targets media and buffer preparation applications. It’s solving some really unique challenges in that space, and it’s really driven by consumables,” said Corti. he said. He explained that while speaking with customers, he has come to understand that one of the main problems plaguing the industry in large media and buffer preparation is leakage.
To address this issue, the company aimed to design a consumable that could effectively prevent leakage. Therefore, consumables are designed with protective features such as a carrying case that wraps around the outside of the film and a cover for the impeller to protect the inside. Corti said the company’s efforts go beyond just design, going the extra mile to simplify the process.
“We understand that large consumables are often difficult to install during installation, and if installed incorrectly they can worsen the situation and cause leaks. We wanted to design something that would be easy to use, with an ergonomic and intuitive operation that would allow the operator to place consumables within the hardware and deliver that experience as a whole. [much] make it simpler [up] [much] It takes less time. [This] You can reduce these leaks that occur in the first place, reducing the burden on your customers. [significant amount] If a breach were to occur, there would be a lot of money and a lot of pain and trouble,” Corti stressed.
Corti also pointed out that the new mixing system does not require any special equipment configuration. “The mixer here has been intentionally designed to have a footprint that can pass through the standard double doors in most cleanrooms, and is designed to fit within typical cleanroom ceiling heights. It will decrease. [much] “Some of the costs…usually relate to retrofitting the facility just to install large-scale equipment,” he explained.
Additionally, Corti predicts that the future of single-use mixing system design will move toward higher quality and improved quality assurance. Based on these protections in the design, Corti said many end users are asking for things like perspective sleep testing and the ability to further confirm that consumables are under warranty once they are installed on the system. said. There should be no leakage.
