The World Travel Awards have announced their 2024 Caribbean and Americas winners.
Notable winners included Jamaica, named “Caribbean Top Tourist Destination,” as well as “Caribbean Top Cruise Destination” and “Caribbean Top Tourism Board.” The Turks and Caicos Islands beat out strong competitors to be crowned “Caribbean Top Beach Destination,” while the Bahamas took home the title of “Caribbean Top Luxury Island Destination.” St. Vincent and the Grenadines was named “Caribbean Top Nature Destination.”
Las Vegas was named “North America’s Leading Meeting & Conference Destination,” Santa Monica was named “North America’s Leading Beach Destination,” and Summit One Vanderbilt was named “North America’s Leading Tourist Destination.” Miami Beach won the prestigious award of “North America’s Leading City Destination.”
Boasting world-class beaches, lush jungle and Mayan ruins, Tulum was named “Top Beach Resort in Mexico and Central America,” while Cozumel earned the title of “Top Island Resort in Mexico and Central America.” Costa Rica was named “Top Resort in Mexico and Central America.”
Peru was named “Top Tourist Destination in South America,” its innovative gastronomy was recognized with the title of “Top Culinary Destination in South America,” and Machu Picchu was named “Top Tourist Destination in South America.” Chile performed well, winning five accolades including “Top Adventure Tourism Destination in South America” and “Top Green Destination in South America.”
The romantic charm of Colombian coastal city Cartagena de Indias has been recognised, with the city named “Top Honeymoon Destination in South America,” while ProColombia has been named “Top Tourism Board in South America.”
Winners in the hospitality category include Fondou Eco Resort in St. Lucia, which was hailed as the ‘Caribbean’s Leading Green Resort.’ Its relentless pursuit of excellence earned Sandals Resorts International the title of ‘Caribbean’s Leading Hotel Brand,’ while the premium Sandals St. Vincent & The Grenadines was named ‘Caribbean’s Leading New Resort.’
Gaia Hotel & Reserve in Costa Rica received the prestigious title of “Top Boutique Hotel in Mexico and Central America,” while La Selva Ecolodge & Retreat was named “Top Ecolodge in South America.”
Other hospitality industry winners included Jamaica’s Half Moon (“Caribbean Leading Hotel”), Round Hill Hotel & Villas (“Caribbean Leading Villa Resort”) and Beaches Turks and Caicos (“Caribbean Leading All-Inclusive Family Resort”).

Other winners included GO! Jamaica Travel (“Top Tour Operator in the Caribbean”), Enchanting Travels (“Top Tour Operator in North America”) and Costamar Travel (“Top Travel Agency in South America”).
The announcement was made as part of the WTA’s Grand Tour 2024, a search for the world’s best travel and tourism organisation, which will span six continents and feature gala ceremonies in Manila (Philippines) and Diani Beach (Kenya). Winners from all WTA regional programmes will progress to the Grand Final in Madeira (Portugal) at the end of the year, where the winner of the prestigious ‘World Leading’ division will be announced.
