LAS VEGAS, NV (FOX5) — Las Vegas is known for major sporting events, world-class entertainment and conventions, and later this month a conference will combine all three to further develop our city while providing UNLV students with an opportunity to grow in their chosen fields.
“I don’t think there’s anywhere else where you’ve got the intellectual capital of sports leaders, entertainment leaders and city leaders coming together during one of the greatest decades in sports,” said Jay Vickers, COO of the UNLV Sports Innovation & Entertainment Conference.
Jay Vickers runs the UNLV Sports Innovation Institute, and he’s one of the driving forces behind a new event called SEI Con (Sports and Entertainment Innovation Conference) taking place July 15-17 in Las Vegas.
“Sports and entertainment wrapped in innovation is all happening in Las Vegas, and there’s no better way to showcase that than SEI Con,” Vickers said.
Industry speakers and thought leaders will culminate into collaborations at the conference. Organizers hope the conference will be a deal-breaker for businesses and corporations in the field as well as individuals looking for opportunities. UNLV and Syracuse University are teaming up to provide students with the opportunity to gain education and participate in the production of a large-scale event.
“That’s the epitome and catalyst of all of this,” Vickers said. “We’ve done this through the UNLV Institute for Sports Innovation and the IPSM program, where we had students work for the Super Bowl, which was the first time we’ve done that, and we’re bringing that same mythology to SEI Con and leveraging all of our students and making the case that they have the opportunity to volunteer and learn from the best.”
After this first conference, vertical events will be held in cities such as New York, Washington and London, but the main base every summer will be Las Vegas, where the event takes place in July, providing a chance for Las Vegas to continue growing its brand and for the industry to grow on a global scale.
