Tata Electronics today announced that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Synopsys, a leading provider of silicon to system design solutions, to collaborate on bring-up of process technology and foundry design platforms to accelerate production of customer products at Tata Electronics’ first India facility being constructed in Dholera, Gujarat. The two companies have identified potential collaboration areas in the following areas:
- Advanced factory automation and yield data analysis solutions to help build AI-enabled factories
- Setting up TCAD (Technology Computer Aided Design) flows to enable accurate technology transfer from technology partners
- PDK (Process Design Kit) and Design Support
- IP development including foundation IP and analog IP
- DTCO (Design Technology Collaborative Optimization) Methodology
Leadership teams from both Tata Electronics and Synopsys met at the Tata Group headquarters in Mumbai to discuss these areas of collaboration.
Dr. Randhir Thakur, Managing Director and CEO, Tata Electronics “We have a bold vision to become a global leader in electronics manufacturing by providing integrated solutions across the entire electronics manufacturing value chain to customers around the world who demand a resilient supply chain. We see Synopsys, with their expertise in semiconductor design and services, as a key partner and accelerator in our efforts.”
“Sasseen Ghazi, president and CEO of Synopsys, Announced his support, he said, “Synopsys has been researching and developing silicon to system design solutions for customers for nearly three decades and investing in developing talent in India. We applaud and support Tata Electronics’ vision to develop semiconductor manufacturing capabilities in India and increase supply chain resilience for the global semiconductor industry.”
As previously announced, Tata Electronics plans to invest a total of Rs 91,000 crore (approximately US$ 11 billion) to set up its first factory in India in Dholera, Gujarat. In addition, it will invest Rs 27,000 crore in a greenfield facility in Jagiroad, Assam, which will assemble and test semiconductor chips. These facilities will produce semiconductor chips for applications in key segments such as automotive, mobile devices and artificial intelligence (AI) to serve customers globally. As the construction of the facilities progresses, it is critical to expand partnerships across the semiconductor ecosystem spanning process and design technologies and equipment suppliers. This planned collaboration with Synopsys strengthens a key pillar of Tata Electronics’ holistic approach to achieving its goal of being the first company to bring semiconductor manufacturing to India.
