According to the Logicalis 2024 CIO report, the majority of CIOs globally are investing in environmental initiatives and technology.
Logicalis, a leading global technology services provider, has revealed that sustainability is a key priority for technology leaders in 2024. According to the company’s 10th annual CIO report, which surveyed more than 1,000 CIOs worldwide, nearly all (92%) CIOs are investing in sustainability initiatives and technologies this year.
In the face of global economic uncertainty, CIOs’ commitment to the green agenda remains unwavering, placing them at the heart of their organizations’ sustainability strategies.
96% of technology leaders said they are already involved in their company’s overall sustainability planning and goal setting, and 93% said they believe IT is core to successfully achieving their organization’s environmental goals.
Additionally, an overwhelming 90% said they assess the sustainability credentials of new suppliers before doing business with them.
Sustainability continues to be recognized as a necessary investment for businesses, not only because it benefits the environment but also reduces energy consumption and operational costs.
But there are still obstacles to overcome: the majority (93%) are struggling to meet their environmental goals, and 43% say collecting data that is distributed across their organization is a challenge.
The statistics also show that an equal number of businesses are not entirely confident that their organizations know how their digital assets are performing against environmental goals.
“Investing in sustainability is not only the right thing to do, it’s also a commercial imperative for companies,” said Bob Bailkoski, CEO of Logicalis. “We know that reducing carbon and energy consumption saves money, and with tightening regulations around carbon reporting, prioritizing sustainability now will benefit CIOs in the future.”
“We work closely with our partners to ensure carbon responsibility is on our side in the outcomes we deliver through technology, and through visibility tools such as our Digital Fabric platform, we are empowering our customers to better manage the carbon performance of their IT assets.”
“CIOs around the world continue to face pressure to prioritise innovation, balance costs and reduce carbon emissions, but these priorities don’t have to compete,” said Toby Alcock, chief technology officer at Logicalis.
“With access to better data, CIOs should be able to see where they can make short- and long-term gains, both environmentally and financially. They’ll also be in a better position to attract new customers who are looking to allocate their business to more sustainable suppliers.”
“The fact that IT is now involved in sustainability at a strategic level should ensure that any initiatives have the right infrastructure and support to be successful.”
