Actor Martin Mahr, known for appearing in sitcoms such as “Roseanne” and “Arrested Development,” has passed away at the age of 80.
The actor died at his home on Thursday after a long illness, his daughter Maggie said in a social media post on Friday. She said she was “heartbroken” by her father’s death but remembered him fondly for his creativity and humour.
“My dad was known for excelling in every creative field imaginable and even starred in a commercial for Red Roof Inn. He thought those jokes were funny and there was never a time when he wasn’t funny,” she wrote on Instagram. “He will be deeply missed by his wife and daughters, friends and colleagues, fellow artists, comedians and musicians, and, as a testament to the truly amazing person he was, his many dogs. I loved him dearly.”
A representative for Mahr did not immediately respond to HuffPost’s request for comment or additional information about his death, which was first reported by TMZ.
Mull was born in Chicago, grew up in Ohio, and moved to Connecticut at age 15, after which he earned a master’s degree in painting from the Rhode Island School of Design.
Mull began his career in show business as a songwriter, and began recording his own songs in the 1970s and later opened for Bruce Springsteen and Frank Zappa, Variety reported.
His music career spanned more than a decade before he turned to acting. He appeared in several TV shows over the years, including “Dads,” “Community” and “Two and a Half Men.” He also had a recurring role as private investigator Gene Parmesan on the soap opera “Arrested Development.”
Merle was best known for playing Leon Karp on the ABC show Roseanne from 1991 to 1997. Emmy Award Nominee A guest role on “Veep.”
Mull is survived by his daughter and his wife, Wendy Haas Mull. Variety reported.
