“We can imagine ourselves as tourists in zero gravity.”
Interest in space travel, ignited by historic events such as the moon landing, is experiencing a resurgence. Technological advances will make the possibility of space travel a reality, bringing about profound changes to our lifestyles. The theme for 2024 positions humanity as an integral part of the universe, suggests our responsibility to cultivate resilience and virtuous habits, and encourages us to imagine ourselves as space travelers, exploring weightlessness and forging connections with nature. Brune Wakula, Strategic Planner and Forecaster at Péclair Paris, It highlights consumers’ readiness for immersive sensory experiences made possible by advances in smart materials, 3D technology, and AI. Characterized by raw yet refined materials, this new aesthetic reflects a sensory futurism that transforms interiors into spacescapes. Designers such as Charlotte Casals (Peclair Paris) highlight materials that evoke the mineral surfaces of celestial bodies, and use lighting fixtures that emit vibrant, shifting spectrums.
“With this new approach, it is no longer simply a question of somewhere outside Earth. We are part of the universe, and this position implies responsibility, as well as resilience and virtuous creation and practice. It imposes a broader, more esoteric and magical vision, in which we can imagine ourselves as gravity-free travelers and choose to claim the stars or seek a beneficial connection with the elements.” Brune Wacra, strategic planner in charge of foresight at Péclair Paris, said:

In the food and hospitality sector, TERRA COSMOS is described in the most expansive terms. Between immersive discoveries and extreme experiences, it is no longer enough to simply move the senses. They must be amplified and confounded, both through technology and whimsical storytelling. Danish chef Rasmus Munk, who defines himself as an “alchemist”, is proud of this approach. His “holistic” menu is best enjoyed in the immersive environment of his Copenhagen restaurant, where he invites guests on a journey from the depths of the ocean to the Northern Lights. Stepping into the El Cosmico hotel, in the rugged landscapes of Texas, is an experience at the border between space and earth. As promised, this luxury campsite will soon be equipped with 3D printed dwellings to escape the pressures of everyday life, recuperate your senses and observe the celestial ceiling.
Retail spaces are also incorporating space-based elements, combining futuristic design with digital shopping experiences. From Acne Studios to Moncler’s Tokyo pop-up store, these spaces reflect a new consumerism influenced by the metaverse and avant-garde aesthetics. Chrome, transparency and glass are often used in designs inspired by artists such as Hugo Fournier and Harry Nuriev.

The TERRA COSMOS theme will be embodied at the show through product curation, events and guided visitor routes marked with the TERRA COSMOS symbol. Curators François Delclaux and Elizabeth Leriche will bring their own interpretation to the “What’s New? In Retail” and “What’s New? In Decor” spaces, integrating a wide range of products sourced from exhibitors into evocative displays that will inspire and surprise. Maison&Objet aims to combine experiential visionary and practicality through a range of experiences, roundtable discussions, masterclasses and experiential activities, while the “What’s New? In Hospitality” wellbeing experience space will be entirely earmarked by the next Designer of the Year.
“To address the challenges facing its professionals, Maison & Objet is relying on one of the instruments that makes it unique: its large international community of renowned professionals in the decoration and design industry, to share and lead an exchange of information that is as relevant as it is useful.” Melanie Leroy, managing director of Maison & Objet, points out:
