TikTok users are being impressed by a video of an airplane with a “highly innovative” toilet facility layout.
The video was shared by @downielive and has been viewed 4.8 million times since it was posted on June 8. “First time I’ve ever seen anything like this on a plane,” the poster wrote in the caption accompanying the post.
The man in the video is facing the aisle of the plane, and in the video he says, “This is a normal commercial plane, it’s not two-story, but the bathroom is downstairs.”
The camera shows a staircase leading to the lower level of the plane, where there are several toilet cubicles. Opening one of them, the man says, “Wow, this is amazing. This is amazing,” and the video ends.
According to the caption, the footage was taken on board an Airbus A340-600 operated by German flagship airline Lufthansa.
With a total fuselage length of just over 247 feet, the “super stretch” A340-600 is Airbus’ “longest jetliner currently in operation,” according to the company, and it also has the largest passenger capacity of any A340.
“The aircraft can accommodate 320-370 passengers in a standard layout and up to 475 passengers in a high-density configuration,” Airbus said. “The increased space inside the cabin allows passengers to enjoy more space.”

The post comes as air travel continues to see strong growth in the post-pandemic era, with the International Air Transport Association (IATA) reporting in May that total passenger demand in April was up 11% compared to April 2023.
IATA reported in January that global air traffic in November 2023 will be 99.1% of November 2019 (pre-pandemic) levels.
“Very innovative”
TikTok users were impressed by the unusual aircraft footage seen in the video.
Users even called it the “best design ever.”
Nathan_Ngumi said: “It’s a very innovative use of space, having a lower floor where multiple toilets can be installed.”
“Wow, I’ve been on a lot of planes and I’ve never seen anything like this,” scarabparty said.
Alex wrote: “This is the coolest thing I’ve ever seen on a plane.”
“I have literally never flown anything other than an Airbus. This seems luxurious to me,” moshmishmash wrote.
Others questioned whether the layout would pose challenges for people with mobility issues.
“What about people with mobility issues?” asked Curtis, of New York.
Paula asked, “What about people in wheelchairs? This is great, but I was just wondering.”
“But it’s not that accessible,” Aresef said.
