Report: C’s re-sign Neemias Keta to multi-year contract, via NBC Sports Boston
The Boston Celtics moved quickly to bolster their frontcourt as the NBA free agency period began Sunday night.
Shortly after reportedly re-signing center Luke Kornet to a one-year deal, the Celtics have brought back backup big man Neemias Queta to a multi-year deal, according to The Athletic’s Shams Charania.
Queta, who turns 25 on July 13, initially signed a two-way contract with the Celtics last September. The 7-foot-tall player earned a standard contract in April if he performed well during the 2023-24 season.
In his debut season with Boston, Queta averaged 5.5 points and 4.4 rebounds in 11.9 minutes per game. Just over three years after becoming the first Portuguese player in the NBA, he also became the first player from Portugal to win an NBA championship.
Keta gives the Celtics some much-needed frontcourt depth with Kristaps Porzingis set to be out until November or December. With Porzingis out and 38-year-old Al Horford in need of rest, Boston needs frontcourt options, so it’s no surprise that the contract situations of Kornet and Queta were quickly resolved.
With Kornet and Queta re-signing, the Celtics have five players remaining on the free-agent market. Xavier Tillman, J.D. Davison, O’Shay Brissett and Svi Mykhalyk are unrestricted free agents. Drew Peterson is Boston’s only restricted free agent.
