MORGANTOWN, WV – Maggie Seaman, MD, has been appointed vice president of Post-Acute Services at West Virginia University Health System, a newly created position that includes oversight of home health, hospice and durable medical equipment (DME).
Dr. Thieman, who began his role June 3, joins WVU Medicine from Allegheny Health Network (AHN) in Pittsburgh, where he most recently served as associate chief medical officer for clinical operations. He served as medical director of AHN’s “one call” transfer center and capacity management team and co-chaired AGH’s peer review committee. Earlier in his career, he served for several years as a physician advisor, working with insurance companies to advocate for physicians and their patients.
“WVU Medicine currently provides hospice, home health and DME services to approximately 2,000 patients per day across three states. Our goal going forward is to become an integral part of the health system’s care team as a post-acute service line, making a noticeable, positive impact on quality and value for patients,” said Carrie Willett, executive vice president for health system integration and business development and president and CEO of WVU Medicine Uniontown Hospital.
“Dr. Thieman’s collaborative approach and experience creating processes in complex environments make her a great fit for this first role, and we are excited to welcome her to the WVU Medicine team.”

Clinically, Dr. Thieman has been an academic hospitalist for the past 12 years and will continue to practice at WVU Medicine. He is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine. He has extensive clinical experience guiding patients through the continuum of care and has led initiatives around throughput and appropriate care.
Since being hired, Thieman has been busy building relationships with Population Health, Peak Health and service line leaders at the WVU Cardiovascular Institute, WVU Rockefeller Neuroscience Institute, WVU Cancer Institute and WVU Medicine Department of Orthopedic Surgery, as well as meeting with hospital leaders across the system and visiting WVU Medicine home care facilities.
Establishing a “consistent way of working across the system” is one of Thieman’s main goals.
“We will focus on operational efficiencies and implement best practice processes,” she said. “The goal is to drive meaningful change that increases value for customers and improves organizational performance.”
