The long-range single-engine version will have a range of up to 659 kilometers according to WLTP. Until now, this version had a standard range of 654 kilometers, so the increase for the 2025 model is small. As reported, the bigger jump of 103 kilometers came with the 2024 model, when the single-motor version changed from front-wheel drive to rear-wheel drive and a major battery update was introduced.
In Europe, the Polestar 2 Standard Range Single Motor benefits from an improved 70 kWh CATL battery, increasing its range to up to 554 kilometers, compared to 532 kilometers for the 2024 model. The big increase in range compared to the Long Range is mainly due to the new battery: the Standard Range model previously had a 69 kWh battery with cells from LGES, but now the cells (like the Long Range battery) are from CATL.
The design changes for the 2025 model year do not affect the bodywork itself, but mainly affect details such as paintwork. The mid-size saloon is available with two new exterior colours. The previous standard colour “Magnesium” is replaced by “Vapor”, a grey shade with a slight metallic effect. The “Thunder” colour is replaced by “Storm”, which first appeared on the Polestar 4, which the company describes as a “dark aluminium colour”. Other exterior design updates also include new 19-inch Aero alloy wheels with aero inserts, and new 20-inch Pro Graphite alloy wheels available if you opt for the Pro Pack.
“Pro Pack” is also the key word for another change. Polestar is adapting its option packages to fit the structure of the 2025 Polestar 3 and Polestar 4 models. The Climate Package includes a heat pump, heated rear seats, heated steering wheel and heated windshield washer nozzles. The Pro Package includes 20-inch alloy wheels and “Swedish Gold” detailing on the seat belts and tire valve caps. The Pilot Package, Plus Package and Performance Package make up the rest of the package structure.
As a result, in addition to the new customized equipment packages, there are also more individual options available, giving customers “more freedom to customize their Polestar 2 than ever before,” according to the press release. However, features such as the Harman Kardon sound system (1,000 euros) and LED Pixel headlights (1,200 euros) are no longer part of the package and must be ordered separately. If the individual options aren’t important to you, you can still order them separately.
The new Polestar 2 will go on sale immediately in Europe and Canada, with other markets due to follow later this year. In Germany, the base version (standard range single motor) is available from 48,990 euros in the configurator. The model with the larger battery and motor at the rear will set you back at least 52,690 euros, while the all-wheel drive version (large battery only) will set you back at least 56,990 euros.
