Blackmagic Design has announced Blackmagic Cloud Live Sync, a new Blackmagic Cloud storage feature that allows users to sync media to Davinci Resolve bins while recording, allowing editors and colorists to start working even while the camera is recording.
When Blackmagic Design introduced Blackmagic Cloud in 2022, DaVinci Resolve included the ability to log into a storage service and store project files on the cloud instead of the user’s local drive. Now, with cloud live sync, users can instantly access their clips and start editing and grading even while the camera is recording, speeding up their workflow.
Cloud Live Sync: Connect production and post-production in real time.
This new feature allows post production professionals to review media and begin working on it from anywhere while the shoot is in progress. Blackmagic Cloud live sync uses the ability to record full resolution HD proxies in H.264. Cinema Camera 6K, PYXIS, URSA Cine and URSA Broadcast G2 share this feature and these files can be live synced to Blackmagic Cloud as they are recorded. They are then also synced to any Davinci Resolve workstations that are connected to the cloud project. The connection is automatic, making the process incredibly simple.
On the camera side, the process is also very simple: users log into Blackmagic Cloud and select a DaVinci Resolve project before recording. Recording then begins while live syncing to all connected DaVinci Resolve workstations. For multi-camera recordings, the new multi-sync feature ensures all cameras are displayed in multiview.
This new feature is useful in a variety of scenarios: Imagine a production environment where filming is happening in one location while a colorist is simultaneously editing the footage in another part of the world, and the results are available on-site as soon as the cameras stop rolling; in news workflows, an event can be recorded and edited simultaneously and broadcast immediately.
“Live syncing media from your cameras directly into DaVinci Resolve bins is a workflow revolution. This has never been possible before. Even with dozens of DaVinci Resolve systems working together through the same Blackmagic Cloud Project, you can live stream into a DaVinci Resolve bin. This is very exciting and amazing to see in action live.”
