Well, here it is, folks. I’m continuing a tradition I’ve been working on for years: ranking the new Academy Award winners. For almost every Oscar category, I’ll be listing the top 25 winners of that award. Some of them will be recent winners. Others will be relegated to honorable mention categories. Maybe one or two won’t even win. This is a series of lists I do every year in the weeks after the ceremony ends. It’s fun to think about the Oscars in the afterglow of the latest telecast, but it’s also the start of another column on this site. And of course, you’re welcome to share your own lists in the comments section below. I’d love to hear your thoughts.
This time, it’s the Best Costume Design category. To be honest, there are very few movies I like among the nominees and winners in the Costume Design category. As you might expect, period dramas and historical dramas dominate the top spots. However, there are some exceptions, such as the following: Black Panther (Banzai Ruth E. Carter) and Star Wars For example, (my favorite). Some of the winners are definitely iconic, whether I personally like them or not. So there’s no denying that some of these winners have great staying power. Where does the latest winner in this category, Poor Things, rank? What about last year’s winners? Black Panther: Wakanda Forever? The previous winner Cruella?See below…
Of all the Oscar winners for Best Costume Design to date, here are what I consider to be the top 25 greatest.
