It will be interesting to see what happens to brands like Polestar that are heavily reliant on China for their manufacturing base (although not 100% made in China). For example, the Polestar 2 model, introduced in 2020 as a compact five-door liftback sedan to rival the popular Tesla Model 3, will find it hard to escape potential preferential tariffs as it is manufactured exclusively at the Luqiao CMA Super Factory in Luqiao, Zhejiang Province, China.
Either way, before tackling the political issues, the Volvo-backed company has thoroughly dealt with the technical issues and now it’s time to unveil the mid-cycle facelift. Styling-wise it’s a bit subtle, but we’re used to this happening when it comes to battery-powered models, which are a bit more minimalist in design to begin with.
Polestar has unveiled an updated version of its 2025 model. The Polestar 2 is already on sale in Canada and Europe, and will be available in more markets later this year. The new model has design upgrades, a new pack structure, more individual options, and best of all, increased range across the lineup. Of course, there are also some new exterior paint jobs, with the standard color changing from Magnesium to Vapor and from Thunder to Storm for the Polestar 4.
Additional exterior new features include new 19-inch Aero or 20-inch Pro graphite alloy wheels, the latter available with the Pro Pack. Inside the cabin, environmentally conscious branding includes animal welfare-conscious Bridge of Weir charcoal nappa leather upholstery and a Swedish Gold Stripe design on the seatbelts if you opt for the Pro Pack.
Starting with the 2025 model year, the Polestar 2 will follow the same pack structure as the Polestar 3 and Polestar 4, but will also get a new single option for enhanced personalisation choices. Pack options consist of the Climate Pack with a heat pump, heated rear seats, steering wheel and washer fluid nozzles, the Pro Pack with new 20-inch alloy wheels and Swedish Gold detailing, as well as the Pilot Pack, Plus Pack and Performance Pack.
The Polestar 2 has been on sale since 2020, and the company says more than 160,000 have been delivered across 27 markets around the world. Going forward, all versions of the Polestar 2 will also get an improved range, with the single-motor Polestar 2 standard series in Europe getting an upgraded range of 70 miles.
